DNV GL’s Maritime Academy Hellas is offering on 14 July 2016, a one-day course on the ISM Code.
Since the ISM Code became mandatory, both shipping companies and ships are required to have in place an audited Safety Management System (SMS). The ISM Basics course deals with the requirements of the ISM Code and how to implement and maintain an effective SMS.
During this seminar the background and the underlying philosophy of the Code as well as the obligations and responsibilities of the different parties involved are explained. The various elements of the code are presented, addressing, where applicable, the latest 2010 amendments. Advice on risk management and the operation of a safety culture are provided. The requirements for internal audits and the system of external verification are outlined and case studies are used as a basis for discussions on problem areas.
This seminar is a good preparation for those who will later assume the role of an internal auditor.
