DNV – EFFECTIVE DOCK & SEA TRIALS AND SUCCESSFUL DELIVERIES OF NEWBUILDINGS

20 March @ 10:00 - 17:00

DNV Seminars

DNV’s Maritime Academy Hellas is offering on 20 March 2024, on effective dock and sea trials as well as successful deliveries of newbuildings.

Course Objectives

This course is to describe how to cooperate closely with yard and Class representatives, to handle efficiently various production outstandings, but also various Owners and Class comments (as raised during previous inspections), plus recommendations, as included in respective equipment commissioning reports (i.e. prepared by the service engineers of equipment Makers).

Examples of various actual cases and problems, as experienced from previous dock and sea trials and analysis of programs / schedule plans, in conjunction with recommendations of how to avoid delays of the trials execution and to complete the whole program efficiently, without significant or numerous outstandings.

Furthermore, to understand the main circumstances for the full and integrated circle of the dock & sea trials, in order to complete globally and effectively the whole construction period of a newbuilding.

Focus points:

Precautions and preventive measures for successful & complete trials, plus effective deliveries, by considering below topics:

  • Description and guidance to use detailed checklists with instructions and recommendations before starting of any dock & sea trials.
  • How the previously issued comments by Owners and Class surveyors, plus the recommendations of service engineers could be rectified in good time (but if not, then possible NCRs could be issued).
  • Analysis of the instructions & guidance of various equipment Makers, which should be applied, together with their standard forms (i.e. for recording parameters to be measured).
  • How, when, by whom all the comments and remarks of service engineers could be applied promptly and well before starting the sea trials.
  • How, when, by whom the programs and specs of dock & sea trials shall be issued and be approved and what standards should be incorporated therein.
  • Describe proper schedule plans for inviting service engineers and review the different procedures for cooperating with them.
  • Analyze the sequence, program, schedule plan, affecting the procurement and transfer onboard of various consumables needed for dock trials, including also the proper working liquids (i.e. different types of lube oils, hydraulics, fuels, treated fresh waters, etc.)
  • Define the “Inspections and Testing Plan” (ITP), as to be used as basic guidance / reference document for successful dock & sea trials.
  • Precautions to decrease environmental impacts on sea trials results (i.e. due to excessive wind, waves, swell, ambient temperature, etc) and efforts to minimize any resulting delays.
  • How the inclining experiment is related with the dock & sea trials and what about the necessary precautions, in order these experiment results to be finalized / approved before starting sea trials.
  • Describe what exactly measuring tools, portable equipment, instruments (recently calibrated) shall be needed for measuring different parameters and data recording during dock & sea trials.

Who should attend: All Owners’ representatives and site team members, who are planned to participate in any part of dock & sea trials (either coming from office, or experienced ex officers, or active senior crew members) with the objectives to accept (or not) specified trials and also to verify that newbuilding is constructed in full compliance with signed contract / spec and the approved drawings.
